The life with FM is great – did not play record for a month or so… I was playing with some other tuners that came across Kenwood L-02T and Mono Scott 310. Both were no good.
Anyhow, the experimental Sansui was running all that time. The “tone” at HF...

Ok, as I promised I repost the final result - a complete fiasco. I have no idea why – becose the “better” parts in output stage or because it is just a different unit but the new Sansui TU-X1, although it is objectively better then my old Sansui TU-X...

In my experimentations, the da924 doesnt contribute much noise in my setup. Rather in my setup its the lavry ad122 thats the trouble maker. When all digital is turned off I have a very quiet background. Here are my observations:a) analog interconne...

When I said that AM sounded in the Sansui as good as FM in other tuners, I meant just that, not that AM was as good as FM. FM in the Sansui is in a league of its own, but its AM is so good too that sounds better than most FM tuners or portable radios...

Above I made comments that despite my new Experimental Sansui TU-X1 with better parts is much better (I have someone who actually objectively measure it) but the old and not modified Sansui TU-X1 has that advantage of the unique tone that I val...
Must confess, I've never really bothered to see what's on AM. I will investigate further with a cheap radio and discount any sound quality issues assuming that the mighty sansui will resolve them...
Chris, I would like to...

I have noted before that the quietly of sound that I’m getting from FM broadcast, or even from the regular FM transmissions of the regular CDs, is insultingly beautiful and not really compatible with Sound that I get out of my CD and LPs.

If you search my link with keyword “tuner” then you come across the “Stereo Surgeons” a tuners service center in Connecticut. I was a month ago searching a place to align my Sansui SU-1X and interview a few shops in US. I was searching somebody who w...
Why do you shut off synchro lock? and syn start?
This part I do not understand as well. I would like to see the screenshot of Mixer as well. The Synchro Lock must be engaged ether via a dedicated wordclok cable or to read ...
Well, the T85++ and TU-1X Multiplex decoders do produces a different stereo.
It was quite phenomenal FM program this weekend in Boston. I was running it mostly off the Sansui tuner and again and again I was stunned...
3) I have been swapping DACs in and out of the chain to compare results. When using my Lavry DAC there definitely is additional background noise. This is unexpected and annoying.
Peter, I am very convinced that th...

Peter, I do not know what is doing in with AM, I do not use it and all my experiments are in FM range. You might do the following: take FM antenna out of tuner and use instead a few cm of local wire. Defeat the noise causation on Sansui and run the t...

There are two fragments of recordings: 3 weeks ago and today. The Wagner file was made from original Sansui and the Bizet’s file with that new Sansui with updated better parts. I think it is possible to see what I meant to say. Please do not download...
5) Rohde & Schwarz need to run for a few hours to become like a measurement machine. When it “cold” it “flies” here and there. Sansui is good after a few minutes. 6) Sansui scale is more predictable and more intuitive ...

I discovered today an interesting detail. In one of my Sansui tuners has a malfunction and one of the output cables was accidently touching the ground terminal out the output pot. As the result the out impedance of the tuner became over 6000R. It was...

Peter,It is obviously that in your installation Lavry and FM are much more isolated then in mine. In fact if your power amp breaks both ground and central wire then when you switch you playback to “Leg B” then digital in not in the picture at all. Ev...

Ive tried various configurations but was unable to produce a recording that is similar to the fm transmission, although its not too terrible. I monitor the sound by using the same output of the Sansui that goes into the DAW. Replaying the file, I n...

Dear Romy, when you tune in to WCRB what is the reading of the FM Signal/Multipath dial on your Sansui TU-X1?...
|
Jp, I think what you do is wrong. The ferrites that you use on the picture are worthless as they will not be having much coupling between the cable and ferrite cores. You need to block entry to Sansui for HF noise. The noise might enter via power cab...
This would involve some researching... thus introduing (possibly unecessary) complexity: look for a Sony or Yamaha or Sansui "power j-fet" amp. These were produced s/where in the mid '70s and should be very cheap now. I have ...

One of my Rohde & Schwarz EU-6201 tuners with a matching Rohde & Schwarz MSDC MPX decoder is going away tomorrow. I was contemplating for a while I decided to let one of my Schwarz sets to do. I left with one EU-6201/MSDC2 decoder and Sansui ...

Well, I have to admit that the stupendous sensitivity that Sansui TU-1X have after the Stereo Surgeons tune up to use the TU-1X is kind of complicated. With 0.8mkV this tuner picks the noise that my DACs radiate. I staffed all wholes of the Sansui’s ...

From another perspective it has film capacitors and the non-polarized Nichicon Muse caps. They take up-to to 30 days to burn-in. So, it might be just too fresh. I would not say that it kills everything – it is just a very-very slightly brighter, enou...

Hi Romy,I live close to the old WCRB Waltham Studios, although I am on a hill facing north-east. Unlike neighbors from Newton and Wellesley (and in my car) I actually have had good (9/10) reception from WCRB's Lowell transmission tower (did not liste...

Hi Peter, thank you very much for the information. Have you had the chance to try the propietary Sansui antenna with your TU-X1? Do you know if it's an indoor or outdoor antenna?Rgrds....

Well, it just so happens that I am now a proud new owner of a Sansui TU-X1! (but had to pay almost 1000 USD for it...sigh; I seem to find legendary precision machinery like this and Nakamichi Dragon irresistable - rest of my hifi stuff is c...

In what way do they sound different from FM recordings? What for were they recorded? I mean that maybe they weren't live performances but final rehearsals using more mikes than for broadcasting... Interesting observation anyway. Maybe it's the Sansui...
